Do you want to be a national champion in some shooting sport? Do you “just” want to outshoot your friends? Protect yourself and your family? Have more one shot kills when hunting? Pass the test at work and get on SWAT? These are all different goals, and not all of them require the same time, effort and energy to accomplish. Knowing what you are training for can really help you determine what kind of training you need to do, as well as how much time and money it will take to accomplish.
Sometimes the techniques and training methods you use will be the same, regardless of your goals. Many times, they will be different. If you can’t figure out what you want, you can’t figure out how to make it happen. There are shooting techniques that will work well for the most of the categories above, but some are a bit more specific or specialized for their discipline, and those will often take an outlay of time and ammo that is not worth it for most people.
So, if you define what your goals are, you can plan your training much more effectively. The problem comes when people want “everything” or are simply unrealistic about their needs. It is easy to get caught in that trap, but it will not help your training and development.
Here at Pistol-Training.com, we have worked on all of the goals listed above, either for ourselves, or for lots of other people. The techniques we use and believe in are time proven to accomplish these goals so we are going to try and create some videos for people to use as reference points going forward. We hope to keep them relatively short and to the point, so please bear with us as I’m sure there will be a learning curve. As they become available, they will be posted on Youtube and of course there will be a link to them here on the the blog.
