This past weekend I taught ODP- Pistol and ODP-Carbine at Mead Hall in OK. If you are not familiar with it, Mead Hall is an excellent private range run by Bill Armstrong. The facility has everything you need for a great training environment and Bill and his wife go above and beyond to make the student (and instructor) experience easy and enjoyable.
We had excellent weather and a group of great students. Thankfully, everyone was a joy to shoot and talk with. I learned a lot at this class, as I usually do, and will incorporate some of that in my next class. Though the basic material is the same from class to class, I vary some of the drills and how the material is presented. Sometimes that is because of what I am seeing from the students and sometimes it is because they tell me what is working best for them.
Among the excellent shooters on the line, two stood out, having shot well enough to win a F.A.S.T. pin. JP Lefebvre, a career LEO and Marine, shot a 4.49. This did not surprise me, as I have shot Action Pistol with JP for the past few years. JP is also starting to remanufacture match grade ammo as well as some practice ammo, and I have a box to test, so more to come on that later.
Roger Moore, an all around good guy and excellent shooter, posted a 6.53. Roger assisted Tom Givens a couple of years ago at the Rangemaster class I took, and he was at my end of the line, so I knew he’d be a great addition to the class. When I told my oldest daughter (a huge James Bond fan) that he was going to be at class, she didn’t know if I was joking or not. Fortunately or unfortunately, Roger did not shoot a PPK, though if anyone can earn a pin with a PPK, I’d love to see it.
Hope to see you guys on the range!
